Robin Tunney urodziła się 19 czerwca 1972 roku w Chicago w stanie Illinois w USA. Pochodzi z dużej, irlandzkiej, katolickiej rodziny. Studiowała w szkole aktorskiej Academy for the Performing Arts, w Chicago. W czasie wakacji występowała w filmach "Bus Stop" i "Agnes of God". Kiedy miała 18 lat zaczęła występować w filmach. Grała głównie w Los Angeles małe rólki w telewizyjnych produkcjach takich jak Life Goes On, Class of '96, Law & Order, HBO's Dream On. Pokazała się również w mini serialu stacji ABC "J.F.K.: Reckless Youth". Wcieliła się tam w rolę Kit Kennedy. "Szkoła czarownic" to pierwszy kinowy obraz w którym wyst±piła. Dzięki roli Sarah stała się rozpoznawalna. Zasłynęła na całym ¶wiecie nawet w Polsce!
