Aktorka o której szeroki świat usłyszał stosunkowo niedawno, przy okazji jej występu w „Mulholland Drive” Davida Lyncha. Dzieciństwo spędziła w Meksyku, skąd w wieku aa lat, po rozwodzie rodziców, przeniosła się wraz z matką i dwiema siostrami do Teksasu. Czuła jednak pociąg do poznawania świata, podjęła naukę w Aiglon College w Szwajcarii. W tych latach podejmowała także pracę jako wolontariusz w Indiach. Po powrocie do Teksasu chciała studiować medycynę, jednak z powodu sytuacji materialnej rodziny zmuszona była do podjęcia pracy w sklepie. Postanowiła spróbować swoich sił w konkursie piękności El Paso. Efekt przeszedł chyba jej najśmielsze oczekiwania, już w krótce założyła koronę Miss USA A.D.1985, zresztą jako pierwsza Amerykanka pochodzenia latynoskiego w historii. I można chyba powiedzieć że od tego wszystko się zaczęło, po tym sukcesie dostała pierwszą propozycję występu w filmie telewizyjnym „Alamo: 13 dni chwały”. Wystąpiła tam u boku Raula Julii. Wtedy też postanowiła że będzie występować jako Laura E. Harring. Następnie przyszły występy w operze mydlanej „Sunset Beach”. Laura występowała tam przez jeden pełny sezon. Można powiedzieć że, jeżeli chodzi o poważną karierę aktorską, wszystko sprzysięgło się przeciwko niej. Etykietki „Miss USA” i „aktorka z telenoweli” spowodowały że bardzo długo nie miała szans na dostanie dużej, poważnej roli. Właściwie David Lynch jest pierwszą osobą, która naprawdę w nią uwierzyła i postawiła na nią. Odwdzięczyła się wspaniale. Wspólnie z Naomi Watts stworzyły niezapomniany duet aktorski. Ulubionym filmem Laury jest „Człowiek słoń” Lyncha a o współpracy z samym reżyserem wypowiada się w samych superlatywach. Ciekawe jak Laura wykorzysta sukces? Czy przemknie jak meteor i szybciutko zgaśnie, czy też może zaskoczy nas czymś niebawem. Jedno jest pewne: ma w sobie ten rodzaj magnetyzmu który nie pozwala oderwać od niej oczu, czyli to co gwiazda kina mieć powinna.
